Data-driven performance management is the key to clear out assumptions and emotion when taking real business decisions. Nowadays building great real-time visualisations is easy. You don´t have to be a technical person or a Business Intelligence Specialist. The only thing you need is some creativity, a feeling for numbers, and most of all, good insight in the processes you want to measure.

This 4-hour course takes you through the principles of Data Visualisation tools. After completion of this course, you will be able to build your own visualisation, connect your operating systems, and start gaining insight into the overall performance of your company or team.

The program

The Course is build-out of 5 modules which will help you build an effective structure towards visualisations.

  • Module 1: Introduction to Data Visualisation tools PowerBi and Databox
  • Module 2: Definition design
  • Module 3: Connecting data sources including basic reference data to make your visualisations more dynamic
  • Module 4: Building the initial visualisations
  • Module 5: Building cross data insights

This is a 4-hour course. Optionally we offer extra 2-hour support to help you through the challenges which may occur when you actually start building visualisations for your organisation!

Module 1: Introduction to Data Visualisation tools PowerBi and Databox

During this course, we will be demonstrating 2 simple to use solutions to give you insights in building your own visualisations. The objective for this section is to give you some great insights into the best ways of designing your visualisation and share some key learnings along the way. In practice, these learnings can be used for any data visualisation solution.

  • Module 2: Definition design

Developing data visualisation withing having a clear view of what to measure is never a good idea. It´s vital to gain a good understanding of what you would like to measure, the dimensions of the data you needed, and the core objective where you seek improvements. Measuring just to measure in general is a waste of time. Measuring to improve is the way forward. In this module, we will be working through your use case and defining the outcomes you want to gather from building these visualisations. We will spend time on audience-based development, so the visualisations actually add value pending the people you are targeting. Furthermore, we will look at the granularity of insights needed in different use cases. Before we start developing insights, we start designing the objectives.

  • Module 3: Connecting data sources including basic reference data to make your visualisations more dynamic

Data is the key to building great visualisations. Based on the design sessions we will deep-dive in designing a functional architecture to enable you to automate data imports, cross data set connections, and creating a data model where we can link different datasets and build logical insights, understandable and dynamic. You will be able to test the different tools of choice. But most of all. Start with ensuring that the data you have to your availability, suits the needs. We will give you some tools and tricks to help you align with your data steward or technical liaison and ensure they understand what’s needed. After this module, you will be able to load data, and whenever required, request your IT to create the right data sets in a language they understand. No more misunderstandings. Better collaboration. Optimised to suit your needs!

  • Module 4: Building the initial visualisations

The fun starts here: You now have the design, the data, it´s time to start building the insights you need. In this module, we will take you through the standard options and give you insights into the visualisation, and the use cases behind them. You will be able to quickly find the visualisations you need and develop insights for your target audience. Insights they can easily consume. The first step to dynamic performance insights.

  • Module 5: Building cross data insights

In this module, we will be touching back on your data architecture. your visualisations and design. In this section, we will focus more on building visualisations which look at the cause and impact. For instance, the process from lead to actual implementation. By using cross-functional data, appended with customer data, we will help you design visualisations which based on the historical data give insight into cause and effect analysis. For example, you sold a solution to a client, however, the client at the end of the day is unhappy. Start following the historical events and find the cause and impact of what went wrong. We call this process analytics. Do this right, and you will be able to monetise the cost impact. Now we are talking. These are great insights which support business case developments for organisational improvements. Start having meaningful discussions with your peers Start innovating and growing your business

Practical information

This course has been developed with a remote-first policy in mind. However, interventions and sessions can be done on location. The program is customised to the needs of your organisation. Therefore the program can only be joined by team members within your organisation. We strive to have the groups no bigger than 10 persons, however, some sections may be expanded to the wider organisation. Talk to us to define the right approach for your organisation!
